What causes a someone to come to be an atheist? Most citizen seem to need religion and, or, some kind of rituals to perform. Then they seem to feel like they are accessing the powers of the universe in some way.
We learn so many things in the first four or five years of our lives. It is such a blessing for those children who receive unconditional love. They seem to live much happier lives and are able to accept the circumstances of their lives much better.

I have a friend who claims to be an atheist. His mother was Baptist, but apparently had never learned to live in unconditional love. She apparently didn't know God because God is love.
She forced her son to go to church on Sundays. One Sunday he chose not to go. She became verbally abusive and hateful. By Wednesday the son asked her why she was being so nasty to him. She said, "You didn't go to church on Sunday!"
The son apparently grew up associating verbal abuse, nastiness, ugliness of behavior, and hellfire and brimstone with the church and God. It appears he therefore chose to 'erase' all of that abuse from his life. He chooses to believe in the 'big bang' theory, believes when we die we just nourish the soil and there is no part of us that continues to live. He chooses to believe that creator does not exist.
I have gotten the impression that he either is not truly an atheist, or that he does not want to believe the things he has chosen to believe. It's like he has chosen to wipe all these things out with his mind, but a part of him is still searching for God.
This is so sad because his life is like a dismal gray color. He is lacking the inner joy and happiness that comes from walking in warm, loving fellowship with our heavenly Father.
May we give unconditional love to our children so they have a better opening of knowing God, and gaining inner joy and peace.
Blessings and warm thoughts.
